When do you use grout floats or grout squeegees?

Grout floats and grout squeegees are used during the grouting of wall and floor tiles. A grout float is ideal for spreading grout evenly over larger surfaces and pressing it deeply into the joints. A grout squeegee is then used to compact the grout and finish the joints smoothly.

Depending on the tile type and grout material, you can choose a softer or harder rubber for optimal control and finishing.

Choosing the right size of grout float

Selecting the right grout float or rubber tool depends on the type of tile, joint width, and working environment. The width of the float plays an important role. A narrower float of around 10 to 15 cm offers more control for smaller areas or detailed work, while a wider float of 20 to 25 cm is more efficient for larger floors and open spaces.

How do you use grout floats and grout squeegee?

Apply the grout diagonally across the tiles using the grout float and press it firmly into the joints. Then remove excess grout with the grout squeegee, also working diagonally across the tile surface. Allow the joints to set slightly before cleaning the tiles with a sponge.

After use, clean both the grout float and rubber tool thoroughly so they are ready for the next project.
