Collection: Adhesive trowels

Soft grip or wood – stainless steel or steel

Adhesive trowels are essential for an even distribution of tile adhesive and optimal adhesion of tiles to walls and floors. By using the correct notch size, the adhesive is applied properly and tiles get sufficient grip during installation.

Choosing the right notch size

Selecting the correct notch size is essential for proper adhesion and a durable tile installation. The notch size determines how much adhesive is applied and ensures full contact between the tile and the adhesive layer.

For smaller wall tiles, fine notches such as 3×3 or 4×4 mm are usually sufficient. For larger wall tiles, for example 30 × 60 cm, a 6×6 or 8×8 mm trowel is commonly used. For floor tiles of 60 × 60 cm, a 10 mm notch is standard to ensure adequate adhesive coverage.

For large-format tiles such as 70 × 70 cm or 80 × 80 cm, it is recommended to use a 12 or 15 mm notch to guarantee even adhesive distribution and optimal bonding.

Also consider the back of the tile: tiles with a rough or heavily ribbed surface require a larger notch size to ensure proper adhesive coverage.

Extra tip when choosing a trowel

Want to be sure you’re using the right notch size? Apply adhesive, place a tile, and press it firmly into position. Then remove the tile and check the adhesive coverage. If the back of the tile is fully covered, you are using the correct trowel.
